ICC Announces 2027 ODI World Cup Format

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially unveiled the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup format, confirmed the 12 official venues, and revealed the tournament’s official brand, “Three Nations, One Heartbeat.” The tournament will take place from 4 October to 21 November 2027, with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia serving as co-hosts.

This edition marks the return of the ODI World Cup to Africa for the first time in 24 years and brings back a 14-team format, giving more nations the opportunity to compete on cricket’s biggest stage.

ICC Announces 2027 ODI World Cup Format: What’s New?

The biggest change is the expansion from 10 teams to 14 teams. The ICC has also introduced a new multi-stage format designed to make the tournament more competitive while increasing the number of meaningful matches.

Round 1 – Super Series

The three lowest-ranked qualified teams will play each other in the opening stage. Only the top team will progress to the main tournament.

Round 2 – Group Stage

The remaining 12 teams will be divided into two groups of six. Each team will play every other team in its group, resulting in 30 group-stage matches.

Round 3 – Super 7

The top three teams from each group, along with the best-performing fourth-placed team, will qualify for the Super 7 stage. A total of 21 matches will be played before the top four teams advance to the semi-finals, followed by the final.

12 Official Venues Confirmed

The ICC has confirmed that the tournament will be played across 12 venues in three African nations:

  • South Africa: 8 venues
  • Zimbabwe: 3 venues
  • Namibia: 1 venue (Windhoek)

The tournament will also be a historic occasion for Namibia, which will host Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup matches for the first time.

Official Tournament Brand

The official slogan for the 2027 World Cup is:
