UAE Women Asia Cup 2026: Esha Oza to Lead UAE in Home Campaign

The UAE Women Asia Cup 2026 campaign will begin with experienced all-rounder Esha Oza leading the hosts as captain. UAE have announced a 15-member squad for the eight-team tournament, which will be played at the Dubai International Stadium from August 28 to September 13.

For UAE, this is more than another regional tournament. They will have the advantage of playing at home, but they have also been placed in a challenging group alongside defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

The big question is: Can Esha Oza lead UAE into the semi-finals and possibly produce one of the biggest surprises of the Asia Cup?

Esha Oza Named UAE Captain

Esha Oza will once again take responsibility for leading the UAE side.

The experienced all-rounder has already captained UAE at the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2026, making her leadership role an important part of the team’s current development.

Oza will now lead the senior UAE side in front of a home crowd, giving her an opportunity to create a memorable moment for UAE women’s cricket.

The captain herself has already highlighted how important playing at home is, particularly after UAE gave Sri Lanka a strong challenge in their previous home meeting but fell short.

UAE Women’s Asia Cup 2026 Squad

UAE have selected the following 15 players:

  • Esha Oza (Captain)
  • Archara Supriya
  • Heena Hotchandani
  • Indhuja Nandakumar
  • Janani Thirukkumaran
  • Lavanya Keny
  • Mehul Kulkarni
  • Rinitha Rajith
  • Samaira Dharnidharka
  • Siya Gokhale
  • Sashikala Silva
  • Suraksha Kotte
  • Theertha Satish (wicketkeeper)
  • Uttara Iyer
  • Vaishnave Mahesh

The squad combines experienced players with younger members of UAE’s developing women’s setup.

UAE’s Asia Cup Group Is Not Easy

UAE are in Group B, alongside:

  • Sri Lanka
  • Bangladesh
  • Indonesia

The biggest challenge will clearly be Sri Lanka, who enter the competition as the defending champions.

UAE will begin their tournament against Sri Lanka on August 29, followed by matches against Indonesia on September 4 and Bangladesh on September 8.

Only the top two teams from the group will reach the semi-finals.

What Happened to UAE Last Time?

The UAE women’s team have not traditionally been among the favourites at major Asian tournaments.

Their recent development, however, has been noticeable. Earlier in 2026, Oza led UAE at the Asia Cup Rising Stars, where they faced India A, Nepal and Pakistan A.

The senior UAE side now gets another opportunity against some of Asia’s strongest teams.

The difference this time is that they will have home conditions, familiar surroundings and the support of the Dubai crowd.

That could make a significant difference.

UAE vs Sri Lanka: The Match That Could Define Their Campaign

The opening match against Sri Lanka could immediately reveal whether UAE are ready to compete for a semi-final place.

Sri Lanka are the defending champions, so UAE will enter as underdogs.

However, Oza has already spoken about the previous meeting between the teams, recalling that UAE gave Sri Lanka a good contest at home but ultimately lost. She believes the current team is eager to go one step further this time.

A victory over Sri Lanka would completely change the perception surrounding UAE’s campaign.

Instead of simply being hosts, they would suddenly become genuine contenders for the knockout stage.

Can Esha Oza Take UAE to the Final?

This is the biggest question surrounding UAE.

Can Esha Oza actually lead the hosts to the Women’s Asia Cup title?

Realistically, winning the entire tournament will be extremely difficult.

Sri Lanka have the experience of being defending champions, while teams such as Bangladesh and the other group opponents have greater exposure at the international level.

But UAE do not necessarily need to win the tournament to make history.

Their first target should be reaching the semi-finals.

If they can defeat one of the stronger teams in their group and qualify for the knockout stage, the pressure will shift onto the opposition.

And once a team reaches a semi-final, anything can happen.

Why Home Advantage Could Change Everything

Playing every match in Dubai is a major advantage for UAE.

The players will be familiar with the conditions, while the home support can give the team additional confidence.

More importantly, UAE will not have to deal with the travel demands faced by visiting teams.

For a developing cricket nation, these small advantages can be important.

The hosts will be hoping to turn Dubai into a fortress.

UAE’s Biggest Problem: Experience

While UAE have promising players, their biggest weakness remains experience against elite opposition.

Playing Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is very different from facing teams with limited international exposure.

UAE will need their experienced players to perform under pressure, particularly in close matches.

This is where Oza’s leadership becomes crucial.

If the captain can keep the team calm during difficult moments, UAE could push the bigger teams much harder than expected.

UAE’s Biggest Opportunity: The Underdog Factor

There is also something working in UAE’s favour: nobody expects them to win the tournament.

That means there is comparatively little pressure.

Sri Lanka will carry the expectations of defending champions, while UAE can play with freedom.

If the hosts start strongly against Sri Lanka, the confidence inside the squad could rise quickly.

A surprise semi-final qualification would already represent a major achievement.

Can UAE Win the Women’s Asia Cup 2026?

Yes, but it would be a major upset.

UAE are not the favourites for the title, and reaching the final will require them to beat at least one highly experienced team.

Their realistic pathway is:

Beat Indonesia → compete strongly against Sri Lanka → defeat Bangladesh or Sri Lanka → reach semi-finals → produce another upset.

If everything goes their way, UAE could potentially reach the final.

But predicting them to win the entire tournament would be too ambitious at this stage.

The more realistic goal is a semi-final appearance.

A Different UAE Team Under Esha Oza?

The most interesting part of this campaign is that UAE are not simply relying on one experienced star.

The squad reflects a developing domestic structure with several players getting increased international opportunities.

Oza’s role is therefore bigger than just scoring runs or taking wickets.

She is also helping guide a generation of UAE players who could become the core of the national team in future tournaments.

A successful home Asia Cup could accelerate that development.

UAE Women’s Asia Cup 2026: Key Things to Watch

Can she handle the pressure of leading the hosts against the defending champions?

2. Opening Match Against Sri Lanka

A positive result here could completely change UAE’s qualification chances.

3. Home Conditions

4. Battle With Bangladesh

The Bangladesh match could become a virtual qualification decider if the group remains tight.

5. Semi-Final Qualification
