1975 cricket world cup Interesting Facts

60-Overs & Whites: Games consisted of 60-over per-side innings, played using traditional red test balls and players wore standard white clothes.
Long Daylight Hours: Hosted entirely in England from June 7 to June 21, 1975, the schedule utilized long British summer daylight hours to complete matches without floodlights.

ICC Cricket World Cup 1975 Player of the Tournament

An official “Player of the Tournament” or “Player of the Series” award was not officially named or presented by the International Cricket Conference (ICC) during the 1975 Cricket World Cup.

Tournament Innovations and Quirks

Test Match Mindset: Teams unfamiliar with one-day pacing treated matches like truncated Tests; India famously blocked out an entire innings when Sunil Gavaskar scored an unbeaten 36 off 174 balls while chasing England’s 334.
Aged Players and Teenagers: The tournament featured veterans over 40 like East Africa’s Don Pringle (43) alongside international teenagers such as Pakistan’s Javed Miandad (17).
Pitch Invasions: The historic final at Lord’s ended in a massive spectator rush onto the pitch, causing famous umpire Dickie Bird to lose his hat in the joyful chaos.

Bizarre and Memorable Matches

Sri Lanka’s Low Collapse: Sri Lanka became the first team bundled out under 100 in ODI history, managing only 86 against the West Indies.
